Serious road traffic collision on A26


Firefighters from East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service assisted at the scene of a serious road traffic collision near Lewes yesterday (Monday April 9th).

An 88-year-old woman from Peacehaven, who was a front seat passenger in a Ford Fiesta car, was seriously injured following a collision with a Fiat Punto, driven by a 19-year-old man, on the A26 at Beddingham, Lewes.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene of the collision at 4pm. 

The driver of the blue Fiesta, a 63 year old woman from London, received minor injuries and was treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and has since been discharged.  

A 19-year-old man from Middlesex who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving has been bailed until 18 June pending further enquiries.

Sussex Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw either car prior to the incident, to call them on 101 quoting Operation Colindale.
