Suspected WW2 hand grenade removed by EOD

The suspected World War II hand grenade handed in at the East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) Training Centre in Maresfield this afternoon has now been removed from the scene by an army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit.

A member of the public handed in the ‘frag’ grenade at the training centre’s reception desk at around 12.15pm this afternoon (Thursday April 12th), asking if it could be disposed of safely.

The fifty metre safety cordon has been removed and the slip road in to the training centre re-opened.

Again, ESFRS advise anyone who thinks they may have discovered any type of explosive device to leave it in situ, evacuate the area and call the police.
