A cow and her newborn calf have been rescued by firefighters who helped them to safety after they got stuck in a ditch.
Battle and Crowborough crews were called to a farm, Mountfield Lane, Mountfield, this morning (15th May) at 10am, remaining there until 13.33pm.
Three firefighters managed to pull the calf out before then winching the distressed cow from the ditch. Crews kept the calf safe and warm by giving him a good rub down before handing him over to the vet, who was on-hand to see to the two animals.
Station Commander Mark Webb said: “She was calfing when the cow rolled into the ditch and gave birth to her calf. It took several attempts using the animal rescue vehicle to pull the cow from the ditch, who was shivering.”
When crews left the pair were safe and well.
