Families sing praises of Newhaven firefighters

Parents have praised Newhaven’s firefighters for their Open Day last weekend which they hailed as a “Fantastic day out”.

Crews pulled out all the stops for the hundreds who came through the community fire station doors to enjoy a fun-packed day.

Everything from dressing up as a firefighter to a ‘blue light simulator experience’
on the fire engine were arranged for youngsters.

Scenarios set-up by the firefighters also included a road traffic collision demonstration using airbags and the ‘rescuing’ of someone trapped on the third floor of a building. Kids were also offered the experience of searching for casualties whilst wearing a mask.

The event, held on Saturday (30th June), was jointly opened by the Chairman of East Sussex Fire Authority, John Livings, together with the Young Mayor of Newhaven Charlotte Crookston, ESFRS Director of Response & Resilience Adrian Brown and firefighter Rickie Botwright.

There were also a whole host of other crowd-pleasing activities and attractions, including: Newhaven’s classic fire engine, the fire house for kids (which enables them to squirt water at it), East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service’s Black Museum and not forgetting the good old cakes and refreshments.

Families enjoying the event were snapped on the day and their photos can be seen on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/eastsussexfireandrescue.
