Technical rescue at road collision in Lewes

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service’s Technical Rescue Unit was called upon following a road traffic collision in Lewes.

Crews from Lewes and Brighton were called to the incident on 1st March at 10.04am, along with the Technical Rescue Unit (TRU) from Battle, which happened on Offham Road. Crews remained at the scene until 11.17am.

Watch Commander David Washington said: “On arrival we found a bus which had been involved in a collision with two private cars, near to Lewes Prison.

“The collision had caused one man to become trapped in his car and firefighters spent 45 minutes using hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the roof and door of the vehicle, which was wedged between a flint wall and the bus.

“The casualty was then removed from the vehicle on a longboard, once tool operation had been completed, and transferred to hospital by ambulance.”
