More than thirty firefighters were called to a house fire in Beacon Road, Crowborough, at the weekend (27th April) at 4.40pm.
Six appliances attended from Crowborough, Uckfield, Mayfield, Wadhurst, the Control Unit from Lewes, along with the Aerial Ladder Platform from Eastbourne, which remained there until 8.21pm.
Initially, it was thought that there were persons trapped inside but following a thorough search of the property it was found to be empty.
Upon arrival, flames were seen coming through the roof and large amounts of smoke drifting from the property, which sparked a concerned neighbour to contact East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service.
Borough Commander Nigel Cusack Crews said: “Crews worked under arduous conditions and brought the severe fire in the roof space under control, which had started to affect the ceilings above the first floor.”
The fire is thought to be accidental but is under investigation.
