On 24th April at 7.22am, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service responded to an emergency call at Thalia House, London Road, Bexhill.
Two fire engines from Bexhill responded and an informative message was received from crews at 7.33am confirming smoke issuing and outlining that people were trapped by the smoke within the three storey building.
Two further fire engines from Hastings, The Ridge and Bohemia Road, were dispatched to the scene and crews confirmed the fire was on the 2nd floor of the building. Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to tackle the fire, which went up to eight breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.
The Control Unit from Bexhill was dispatched. Firefighters rescued two people from the property. At 7.53am a further two appliances from Battle and Herstmonceux were sent.
Crews performed a full search of the building and further casualties were rescued and led to safety from within the building. They were then transferred to the care of the Ambulance service.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
