Fire Service attends fatal RTC in Rye


East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service attended a fatal road traffic collision yesterday (7th May) in Rye.

Four fire engines from Rye, Battle and Hastings attended, as well as the Service’s specialist Technical Rescue Unit.

Emergency services were called to the A259, Winchelsea Road, Rye at 2.17pm, following a collision between a Peugeot 197 saloon and a delivery lorry. 

The woman, believed to be in her sixties, who was driving the car, was trapped in the vehicle and was tragically confirmed dead at the scene. The lorry driver was not hurt.

The A259 had to be closed in both directions and diversions put in place whilst the area was made safe.
