Operation scaled down after serious fire at Newhaven

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has scaled down its operation to tackle a large fire in Newhaven.

Around forty 999 calls were received from 01.43 this morning (7 November 2013) to reports of a fire on Avis Way Industrial Estate.

At the height of the incident, 60 firefighters, twelve fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms were at the scene.

Several units were alight.

As of 07.30 the fire is surrounded and the incident is under control. Two fire engines remain at the scene. A fire investigation will be carried out today.

Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance also attended.
At this time there are no reports of any injuries.
