Serious fire at commercial premises in Portslade

Firefighters from Hove, Preston Circus, Lewes and Roedean have successfully tackled a fire overnight in Portslade.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called out at 19.29 on 16 January to reports that a commercial building was alight on Basin Road South.

On arrival crews saw it was a well-developed fire, affecting the ground and first floors and the roof space of the 10m by 20m property.

During the incident eight breathing apparatus were used, along with a hose reel and one-in-seven foam.

Power supplies were isolated and the Port Authority was also in attendance.

There are no reports of injuries.

The fire was out by 21.30 and a re-inspection is taking place this morning.

A fire investigation has taken place and the cause was accidental.
