Fire and Rescue Service urges extra care during bad weather



East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is urging drivers and residents to be extra vigilant during inclement weather. Strong winds could cause trouble in some areas of East Sussex and Brighton and Hove as a storm is expected to arrive in our area in the early hours of Friday morning and last until midday.

Glenn Jones Emergency Planning Officer at East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service  said.  

“The current forecast for Friday is for higher wind speeds across our area, so we are asking everyone to be prepared.

“By taking a little care and planning ahead, it is possible to minimise the risk and maximise safety.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service would like to remind people of the following safety advice:

Drivers
·         Plan your journey and check road conditions  before setting off
·         Ensure that your vehicles are in good condition, with tyres that have adequate tread, windscreen wipers in a serviceable condition
·         Drive at speeds that allow you to stop safely.

Residents
·         Take precautions by ensuring that any outdoor items such as toys, bins, ladders, and garden furniture are secured to prevent them being blown into the roads or through windows
·         Try to locate pets and bring them indoors if you can.

These organisations can be contacted if you have a problem which does not require an emergency response.
