Firefighters expected to stay at scene of Newhaven fire overnight

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is expected to remain at the scene of a fire in Newhaven overnight.

The initial call was received yesterday (5 December 2014) at 10.30 am to reports of rubbish alight at an industrial site.

Crews attended Skip It Containers on North Quay Road. At least 200 tones of rubbish was involved.

Earlier today (6 December 2014) eight fire engines were at the scene - as of 16.45 the operation included six fire engines, high volume pumps and water carriers.

The Coastguard are also assisting.

Sussex Police have put cordons in place and people are still being asked to avoid the area.

There are no reports of injuries.

Crews are expected to remain on site throughout the night.
